The construction of phase 4 of the WHR, ‘bridging the gap’ between Rhyd Ddu and Porthmadog commenced on 1st August 2005, when the First Minister of the Welsh Assembly, Rhodri Morgan cut a red tape to inaugurate work. Since then, significant changes have been completed at Rhyd Ddu and tracklaying has now progressed through the Aberglaslyn Pass and Nantmor, and has reached the Afon Nanmor. At the south end of the line, the WHR(P) have also laid track to Traeth Mawr. The push continues, with the goal of linking it all up for opening in 2009.
